FOP is one of the rarest, most disabling genetic conditions known to medicine. It causes bone to form in muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Bridges of extra bone develop across joints, progressively restricting movement and forming a second skeleton that imprisons the body in bone. There are no other known examples in medicine of one normal organ system turning into another.
This is the FOP community’s time to be bold — to be brave and forge ahead with a clear vision for a world without FOP. Please join us as we strike a new path toward treatments and a cure. Your support in any amount will help us start off strong. And the first $50,000 in donations will be matched dollar for dollar.
Together, we can support research for treatments and a cure for FOP. The IFOPA invites you to join the In Pursuit of a Cure Campaign to expand FOP research. This special campaign will fund new ACT (Accelerating Cures & Treatments) for FOP competitive research grants and the IFOPA’s first-ever targeted research grant in gene therapy.
Gene therapy development is a long road. The process from early stage research to regulatory approval can take a decade or more. But if successful, gene therapy has the potential to cure FOP by correcting FOP at the source — the FOP gene. We simply must aggressively pursue every avenue and leave no stone unturned for our FOP family.
Thank you for joining us In Pursuit of a Cure with your gift today!
