The Tin Soldiers FOP Outreach Program is a global call-to-action in search of the potentially thousands of people living with FOP in the absence of a diagnosis. The program provides education and support for patients, medical professionals and the public to raise FOP awareness and offer access to resources, a network of support and information on medical care.
Given an incidence of approximately 1 in every 1 million births, the statistical expectation worldwide is now upwards of 7,500 cases of FOP. However, only 800 to 900 have been diagnosed and it is believed many of the undiagnosed live in the world’s most underserved communities, with little or inadequate access to appropriate medical care, patient support and information.
Due to the rarity of the condition, even the medical community’s knowledge of the indicators, care and treatment of those with FOP is limited. Donations received for 2020 enabled the development of a Global CME Master Series for FOP specifically targeting healthcare professionals featuring leading FOP experts from around the globe. Watched across 14 countries with 198 unique users across the Series, Tin Soldiers made a significant impact in increasing awareness of FOP and available resources and tools for clinicians, patients and their families.
This year our work focused on building an African network and with your help in 2021, we would like to roll this Program out to even more communities worldwide (many of which may be underserved and in desperate need!). Please donate generously to the Tin Soldiers Program and help us with the task of identifying every person with FOP who is currently undiagnosed and deliver education and support to those living with a diagnosis.
We hope you will take a moment to visit the Tin Soldiers website to learn more about our work.
